Valerie A. Carrillo has devoted a majority of her legal career to practicing school law. Previously, she was in-house counsel with the Dallas Independent School District for nine years. The focus of her practice has been representing school districts in the areas of labor and employment law, as well as general education law. Ms. Carrillo was also recently appointed to serve as a part-time Administrative Law Judge for the City of Dallas' employment hearings. Prior to working as a school attorney, she practiced family law, criminal law and general civil litigation. During her legal career, she has volunteered to do the following community service projects: serve as a public speaker at various public schools during career week for students; provide legal training to school administrators on a variety of legal topics; and provide pro bono legal services to local legal aid offices.
